Monday May 9th, 2016 (6 hours)- I learned how to work the washers and driers. The washers and driers are the same as the ones at Tiffin but they use different settings and they add tide to their washers when doing different loads of laundry, I started to learn my way around the building since its two buildings put together. I worked on baseball game jerseys since they have games this week and next. Worked on washing towels, volleyball track and mens basketball laundry. Once I got the baseball jerseys complete I was able to go to the locker room and hang them in their lockers. After lunch I was able to complete the rest of the laundry and return them to their locker room and hang them in the players lockers. This was the night Zac is taking his crew to a baseball game as their end of the year event. I was lucky enough to be able to join them and meet everyone that works for him and who I will be working with during the rest of the baseball games. Tuesday May 10th 2016 (4 hours)- Since they are still in baseball season I was able to meet some of the players while we were handing out CUSA gear to them. Zac picked out sweatshirts for the team to have that said CUSA on the front. CUSA is the conference Marshall is in. Zac gave me the task to double check baseball to make sure they had what they needed before practice and also check the jerseys to make sure we are not missing any for the games this week. I did laundry for the sports that needed it done to keep my self busy since there is not a lot to do at this time. Wednesday May 11th, 2016 (6 hours)- I worked on the same projects as I did yesterday. I did laundry for the teams that needed it done. I was about to meet different people who work at Marshall and they were able to meet me and know who I was so when they saw me. Days like this I was able to work on my summer class and get ahead of what needed to be done. Thursday May 12th, 2016 (4 hours)- Since there has not been a lot to do the past few day I was able to come in at 10 and work till 2. I worked on laundry like the days before. I was able to work on some homework also while I waited on laundry. When laundry was done I would take it to the locker room and hang it up in their lockers. Friday May 13th, 2016 (8 hours)- I have completed my first week of this internship and I can tell it will be a long three months but I am excited to see where the rest of the weeks take me. I am looking forward to when the gear arrives so I am able to see how they take inventory and where they store the items. I did the same thing today as I did the past two days. I completed Laundry duty and make sure nothing else was needed for the weekend.
With the first week over with I have learned a few things. Learned how to treat baseball and softball pants, their way of washing clothes and their style of work. It is very different coming from a place where I do most of what they do and they have 4- 10 people doing what I do. Learning how they wash different items that we do at school but yet do it in a different way and get different results is interesting. I am hoping I can take what I learn here at Marshall to Tiffin and being able to apply those things. As of right now there is not much to do other than a little bit of laundry from the teams that still have people here. As of right now we are waiting for inventory to come in so we can start checking off what we have for the seasons and what we don't have yet. Thing are very slow and not really moving until those items get in.
week two
With the second week complete I have learned more about this job and company. Compared to the week before there was a lot more action. There were home baseball games, retail and ordering process. Monday May 16th, 2016 (8 hours)- I was able to learn about ordering gear for each team. With Nike your able to go online and select the item you would like and they tell you how many of that size they have in stock. So your able to let the coach know if your able to order that amount or not. With that process it is easier to order all the gear for each team and able to know when your able to pay for them. They have a system here at Marshall where they put the date they want to pay for the item. Tuesday May 17th, 2016 (13 hours)- I was able to join the baseball team for their home game. What is different with the baseball team is that they play all their games on the road. They do not have a field on campus that they can play on. They play their home game at the West Virginia Power field that is a hour away or they travel about 2 hours to a different field to play their game. When working for the baseball team it is different from working football. With football I am on the field doing something all the time. With baseball I was selling gear and talking to fan when they came up to the table. Baseball is not very hands on when it comes to help but yet still has the same amount of need as football. Wednesday May 18th, 2016 (8 hours)- Today was catching up the laundry for baseball to get ready for the games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Thursday and Friday the team played at the West Virginia Power field. The West Virginia Power is the team for the Pittsburg Pirates AAA team. Logan Sendelbach is the pitcher for this team. The Marshall baseball team was playing for the conference championship. The baseball team won on Thursday and Friday and lost Saturday. They lost the conference championship by a half of a game. Thursday May 19th, 2016 (12.5 hours)- Today is the first of three games this week the baseball team has. Today will be a learning day since I have not worked a baseball game before and I am not sure what all is needed when it comes to baseball games. I learned that they sell gear at the games for the fan to buy and that Zac is the only one who works with the team one on one. His staff runs the table for gear and he makes sure the umpire has enough baseballs during the game, This was the first time I have gone on a trip with Zac and two of his student workers. This was a great experience to have since I was able to ask them questions about Zac and the program they have here. After the game we waited for the team to get dressed and ready to leave before we left. We were able to take their jerseys with us and start washing the jerseys and pants. Friday May 20th, 2016 (11.5 hours)- Friday was the same as Thursdays but the only difference was we played at a different ball park. I am tired from thursday and learning about what all they did during the game and having such a long day but I am excited to see what today brings. I was able to learn where they put everything for the game and talk to the student managers some more today. They were able to ask me questions about what I did with football and what I am in charge of at Tiffin. What I learned the past two days is that they take care of the Umpires and with football we just assist them with a locker room and nothing else. Zac provided snacks and drinks for the umpires before and after the game. He also does their laundry if they want him to, so they have it cleaned for the next game. After the game we went to the visitor hotel where we picked up their jerseys and pants and then grabbed our teams laundry and took it back to the office where we spent the rest of the night doing laundry and having it ready for tomorrow. Zac had to run the visitor laundry back that night so he had to drive an hour back to their hotel to drop of the jerseys.
Week three
Monday May 23rd, 2016 (8 hours)- Since there is no gear yet that has arrived there has not been much to do other than wait. I have done volleyball, mens basketball, and women's basketball laundry all day and hung them up where they needed to go in the locker room. Tuesday May 24th, 2016 (8 hours)- I spent my day doing the same thing I did on monday. There is still not a lot of things that need done since nothing has still not arrived yet. Baseball is leaving for their conference games that we need to get jerseys ready for so that took much most of my time between laundry. Wednesday May 25th, 2016 (6 hours)- Zac has left for a wedding that he is apart of and they are spending the weekend there. Erin is helping me with the task of laundry still since that is all that needs done. Baseball has left and is going to play their first game today and we are going to spend the day watching them while we do laundry. I was able to leave early since Zac was not in the office and there was nothing for me to do. I was able to leave early and go back home to see my family before I go on my vacation. Can not believe I am in my third week of my internship here at Marshall. I have learned a lot so far threw the three weeks I have been here. There is a lot of people who work together and if they could not work together it would not run properly. This week was a short week since I was heading home. This week every day seemed to be the same. Going into work at 8 and leaving at 4. Wednesday was the only day I worked 8-2. Wednesday we were able to go home early since there was nothing else to do for the day and everything was done. Monday and Tuesday and also Wednesday there was just laundry that needed done and just organizing the rooms to get ready for the boxes to arrive with this upcoming seasons.
week four
Finally back at it after a few weeks off for vacation. The week started off very busy. We got a weeks worth of packages in to all check in that are full with gear for all the sports. All the boxes are put in the visiting locker room at football. This is one of the very few places where there is enough room to hold all the boxes and it is easier to move the boxes to football when they get in since 75 percent of the boxes are for football. Monday June 20th, 2016 (8 hours)- I spent all day unloading around 6 pallets full of boxes of all sizes. Organizing all the boxes by sports and by order numbers. This system was used so when opening boxes by sport the boxes that had the same item in the box we can place them together and get the right number of that current item. This system was very helpful when it came to being able to move threw almost all the boxes in one day. This is what we did all morning and afternoon. Once we were done with the boxes we started placing them in a van if they needed to be taken to get a logo on the item. Tuesday June 21st, 2016 (9.5 hours)- We did the same thing as we did Monday. There were more boxes that arrived throughout the day and it kept us all busy the whole day. This is a busy time of the year for the equipment room when all the gear starts coming in. They are preparing for football to start and getting the equipment room ready for the first day of camp and then they are trying to get the other sports ready with their gear so they have it on time. This process I am learning is very useful and helpful. I used to do everything by counting everything in the box that it came in but the box says exactly what is in it on the out side of the box. This is something I brought back to Tiffin and will help me move faster with the check in process. Wednesday June 22nd, 2016 (9.5 hours)- If I thought the boxes were going to stop any time soon I was wrong. There were more boxes that arrived today. There is more sorting and organizing and checking in each boxes. There are more boxes that need to be moved to the van to be taken to get logos on them. When Zac takes the boxes to HomeTown to get logos on them, this is the time I would heat press a lot of the football items that are completely in and can start being put away. I believe I will be heat pressing more and more items during the summer for football and for other sports. Thursday June 23rd, 2016 (9.5 hours)- Today spent taking care of the boxes that were checked in and taking them to the correct sports area. We moves the boxes of different sports to there holding places for the season. We also took boxes down stairs to the football equipment room and places them in the correct areas for them to be for the season. During this we were able to label off the gear that the players and coaches get with a heat press. This system is used so other players are not able to take other players gear since their number is in the gear. This is also easier when doing laundry if an laundry loop gets unclipped they know who's item it is. Friday June 24th, 2016 (10 hours)- Today was one of the longest days while working this week. There was not a lot to do but the things to get done took time to do. I spent most of the day finishing up labeling all the gear that was ready to be labeled, and kept up on the laundry that needed to get done during the day. There were also some pallets that were delivered during the week that did not take very long to sort or get threw. This week was very informational. I learned a lot about taking care of all the boxes for all the sports and being organized about it. I also learned new ways to check all the items in all the boxes and how to match them all together with other boxes. I am enjoying the time I have spent with Zac and everyone else. I am excited to see what next week brings.
Week five
On to week five. This time is going very fast and I am learned more and more every week. Just like the past week there has been boxes on boxes. The football players are getting ready to go home for a week since the 4th of July is this weekend. I will be heading back home on Thursday to go home to celebrate my aunts 40th wedding anniversary. I am excited to be back at home for the weekend and get to enjoy their company, but to get threw this week first. Boxes are still coming in every day. When we get things finished we are getting them to their correct areas and putting them away. There are more things coming in for football and other sports and we are working on completing each tasks that needs to get done in a timely fashion. There is a lot of heat pressing that goes on to complete task. They heat press every item they give the coaches and players. This is to prevent players to steal other players gear. Monday June 27th, 2016 (10 hours)- Today starts out at 8 in the morning like any other day but more boxes are here and need to be checked in. Since there are a lot of items that are coming back from HomeTown they need heat pressed and taken to the locker in the equipment room for check in day. For football they have lockers for laundry in the equipment room and they also have gear lockers where they keep their hand warmers and other things for just game day needs that they can ask to get during that week of the games. In these lockers they put the gear they are getting for check in day so they are able to just hand it to the player and the process does not take really long. So heat pressing is something that I will be doing every day till I leave for all sports. Tuesday June 28Th, 2016 (9 hours)- Nothing has changed from the past few days. More boxes are coming in and need to be checked in and taken to the correct area wether it is HomeTown, Zac's office, or down to football. There seems like there is so much to do since there are a lot of boxes still coming in and I don't know when it will stop. There seems to be more than 10 plus boxes everyday during the morning and afternoon. I did not know there could be so many boxes in one room in my life and knowing more is coming is something I can not figure out what else could be coming. Wednesday June 27th, 2016 (6.5 hours)- I have one more day left before I am able to leave and go see my family for my aunts 40th wedding anniversary. I am really excited to see my family and celebrate with them. But first these boxes. I have heat pressed more items than I can count. My right arm is getting bigger from pulling the machine down for hours on end. I am thankful they play music during the day so I can focus on the music playing and not that I have spent the past 3 hours heat pressing and still have another 4 hours of it left. I am thankful for this machine though, It does speed up the process and I am also learning how to use a different machine that we don't have at Tiffin. I am learning how to print off more labels for the gear and being more independent in the equipment room. I spent the rest of the day heat pressing different items for football and for the football coaches and helping the players before practice and getting their gear they need. Thursday June 28th, 2016 (7.5 hours)- Today I am able to go home and see my family but I am not leaving till 2 in the afternoon. Today I am working on the heat pressing I was not able to complete yesterday and putting them away and then starting new heat pressing task till I leave in the afternoon. The boxes are finally slowing down but there are still a few things missing for a lot of the sports. Today is like the past few days completing task that we have started but not able to complete since there are so many boxes coming in.
Week six
After a crazy weekend its time to get back to work. With the 4th being on a Monday, I went back to work on Tuesday afternoon. I arrived around 12:30 for work and left at 3. I was able to work with Zac one on one. I was able to ask questions about his job and what all he does and what he likes most about his job. I enjoyed being able to talk to Zac and being able to learn from him. The rest of the week seemed to go by very fast. With there not being as many boxes coming in we are able to focus our attention on other projects that need to get done that we finally have time to complete. There are other small projects that we are also finishing up through out the week so we are able to complete a bigger projected for the following week. Since there is not a lot that needs done towards the end of the week we were able to go home early on Friday. Tuesday July 5th, 2016 (2.5 hours)- Today I drove to Huntington to get to work by 12:30. Today was a day I was looking forward to since I will be alone with Zac for the first time all summer. I was able to ask Zac questions about the field and what all he does and what he likes about the job. He was also able to give me task for me to do on my own and see how I work and the way I get task done. I only worked till three today so I was only able to complete a few of the task Zac wanted to get done since we were talking about different things that go on with the job. Wednesday July 6th, 2016 (9 hours)- I am back to heat pressing more items at football and starting to work on other task for Zac he would like to get done this week. His assistance are taking their vacation for the summer and will not be around as much so I am able to work with Zac closer this week than any other week before. There is not a lot of football laundry since the guys have the week off so there is little laundry to do. This is the time I am able to work on other sports than football and get their items done. Thursday July 7th, 2016 (8 hours)- Being able to work on other sports than football is really nice and a new place to look around when heat pressing items. Working on football items also is something that is every day activity. There are boxes still coming in that I am able to work on and learning how to check them in using the book since there is not as many people in the office. Today was full of heat pressing the gear and getting them put away. Friday July 8th, 2016 (7 hours)- As the previous days before there is not much to do other than taking items to HomeTown or heat pressing items and putting them away where they need to be for season. Today is also full of heat pressing and seeing what all needs to come in still and what else we need to order to be able.
Week Seven
Football is back and has started summer work outs again. Monday July 11th, 2016 (8.5 hours)- I worked on heat pressing football shirts and coaches gear. Everything is slowing down since a lot of the things are caught up and there are just small things that need done. With this comes a lot of down time since there is no need for 5 people working on one project, and also this brings time to get things done that needed to get done before but never had time to take care of them. Tuesday July 12th, 2016 (6.5 hours)- Football had workouts at 3. I had to help set up the field and be at practice if they needed anything else. When practice was over I helped cleaned the field up and then waited around and worked on laundry. Football is having their summer workouts so I am starting to meet more of the guys and they are starting to understand who I am and what I am doing this summer. Today I was able to talk to Zac more about the job and ask him about the players and he was able to talk to me about what he liked about helping out with football but not being directly in charge of it every day. Wednesday July 13th, 2016 (8 hours)- Today was a slow day since there was not much going on and a lot of thing were already done and just had to wait for receiving to arrive so we can check in gear and work on what came in. With Football having work outs throughout the day it is nice to do laundry to keep you busy but also there is not much to do during the time you are waiting on the laundry to finish. Thursday July 14th, 2016 (6.5 hours)- Today was the same as Tuesday. Went into work around 12 and stayed till 7 working on laundry and getting football practice set up and taken down. This is a new to me when it comes to this set up. They have a full indoor field so its more spread out and you have time to set everything up and be prepared for when practice starts. Friday July 15th, 2016 (9 hours)- I worked on heat pressing again, spent the whole afternoon working on shirts and pants for football. All of the gear that was heat pressed was for their travel when they go to games. Heat pressing takes a lot of time and when there are over 150 items you need to heat press form the team and also coaches there is not much more you can do in your day when there are 4 other people doing something also and working on laundry.
week eight
I have two more weeks let of this internship and I believe I have learned a lot so far. Knowing this week will look the same like last week I am ready to get more jobs done and completed before the season gets started. Monday July 18th, 2016 (9 hours)- Today was a slow day. I worked on the locker room getting it cleaned so that they are able to go in and repair the lockers and update the locker room also. Like the weeks before I am heat pressing my life away. I believe my right arm is bigger than my left one now. I am thankful that there is a student worker that is starting to put hours in so I have someone to talk to while heat pressing. Its nice to talk to someone and work at the same time, it seems like times goes faster and also the job! The locker room was a team effort but also something that did take an hour and half to complete. Your trying to get a task done while they are lifting and when the guys come back you have to leave so they are able to shower and leave the locker room. I am starting on working on other sport teams gear since a lot has came back from HomeTown. Right now Zac is having me help Erin with Women's soccer when she needs it or to go down and double check if she needs any help. Tuesday July 19th, 2016 (8 hours)- I did not have to be into work till 12. With not being at work until 12, my day will last longer than normal. There is football summer practice that is held at 3. So laundry needs to be done before we leave for the day since weights are at 6 in the morning. I am able to start working on heat pressing items since there are people that were there this morning at work and they were able to start jobs that I can finish with heat pressing and putting them away. Heat pressing is my life at the equipment room and letting know if any player needs help since I am sometimes the only one in the equipment room and I am not able to issue gear. Wednesday July 20th, 2016 (0 hours)- Today brought an early morning since it was a late night. Today our work took us to the Cincinnati game. This was an opportunity Zac wanted to take us to. There is a former Marshall baseball player who currently plays for them. He unfortunately did not pitch this game but we were able to see him after the game where we could go near the locker room. Thursday July 21st, 2016 (9 hours)- Zac has me working on men's soccer, women's basketball, men's basketball and volleyball gear. With Zac trusting me with other team sports by my self I am not in the football equipment room a lot. I go in to check in to see what all needs done or the day before Zac lets me know where he would like to me to go in the morning. I enjoy working by my self because that is what I am used to at Tiffin. I can only be accountable for if something is not done correctly or right. I know that responsibility already so I am able to handle these task Zac has given me. I have been working on women's volleyball gear and heat pressing their items for the players that are reporting here in a week. Zac gave me a check sheet and showed me everything they are getting and if I had any more questions to call him and ask them. Friday July 22nd, 2016 (9 hours)- Today I was at soccer all day. I was able to achieve a lot of the task that I needed to get done on the check sheet. This is something Zac was surprised about since it is one of the first task he has given me that I have been by my self for and he has not been around to assist if needed. I was able to ask him questions that came up during the process. This is a great learning experience for me. It shows me that I am doing something that I like and is something I am good at and also reinsures me that I do know what I am talking about when I go back to Tiffin.
week nine
Well my final week has approached. I am shocked that it has gone as fast as it did and I am very thankful I was able to get this opportunity. Monday July 25th, 2016 (9 hours)- This is my last week I am able to get everything complete for Zac. I am spending a lot of time at soccer and finishing up the task. I have completed everything at soccer except some pieces that are missing and that Zac needs to order. When I am not at soccer I am in Zac's office completing men's basketball and women's basketball gear. Tuesday July 26th, 2016 (8 hours)- I went down to soccer to take the items we ordered that came in and heat press them and put them in the players locker to finish up more of the check list. I also helped with football practice set up and was able to help heat press after setting up the field. I was able to help Brian and Zac with getting the players game day cleats and practice cleats. I was also able to help check off who came to visit to get their cleats and who has not. This was also an opportunity for me to meet the players and for them to meet me also. Wednesday July 27th, 2016 (9 hours)- Zac had me total the book. The book had all the gear that we ordered for each sport. So it was my job to add up all the totals of all the gear we have received so far and also the total at HomeTown. So this took some times since it was dealing with numbers that needed to be correct. I was double checking all my work with each team. Zac also had a post it note on the beginning page that said how much it needed to be totaled and if my numbers did not add up more than once I called him and asked him if there was an error in my calculations or in his. I helped with football heat pressing and also softball heat pressing. I also went down to soccer to make sure nothing else was done and make sure everyone had what they needed. Thursday July 28th, 2016 (9 hours)- Today is my last day at Marshall and I will be leaving tomorrow to go back to Tiffin. I worked on helping pass out gear to the guys who was there this summer and helping them try on game day cleats. I had one guy ask me what style of cleat he should get since he could not choose. I told him the cleat that Brian the head football equipment guy told him. The kid listened to me and not Brian, even though I told him the same thing. When this happened Brian was thankful that I was there since the kid needed to be in those 3/4th cleats and not the low cleats to help protect his ankles. This was a time that I enjoyed because I was able to work with the players like I would at Tiffin.
